Staff will present to Business Services Committee on January 12, 2011, their capital priorities for the period 2011-2015, which must be approved by the Board of Trustees on January 25th for onward submission to the Ontario Ministry of Education by January 28th in keeping with the Ministry's September 1, 2010, memorandum to Ontario school boards.  It's a five-year outlook and I'm pleased that staff have identified a number of needs that exist in the Gloucester Southgate and Gloucester-South Nepean areas of Zone 7, which includes proposals to build a new elementary school in Chapman Mills (2012), a new addition on to Steve Maclean Public School in Riverside South (2012), a new elementary school in Findlay Creek (2014) and a new elementary school in Barrhaven South (2015).  I'm also pleased that they are continuing to work on a new Master Facilities Plan, as recommended by myself and adopted by the Board last Spring, in order to develop a more strategic plan for managing school assets. It would include, in one document, facilities renewal needs, facilities revitalization projects, new construction demands as well as new Ministry initiatives.  This will ensure that we have a comprehensive, balanced approach to managing facility needs and investments in all areas of the district.  We then need to work with the Province to develop a new model for funding school boards.
